Here are some of our Award winners!

 Jack Derbyshire

Jack Derbyshire was a pupil at Melling Primary School school and has just left Year 6 class. He was one of those 'one in a million' children who represented and naturally reflected all of the school values - a true Melling Child – one who was an inspiration to and an example to others. His manners were exceptional and he showed utmost respect to his peers and to every adult and visitor to school - this quality was recognised by all.  Last Summer Jack decided that he wanted to do a sponsored golf tournament
in aid of the 'James Apter Friendship' Charity. In typical Jack style he dedicated himself to raising as much money as he could - and he completed a mammoth 20-hour golf round - raising over £1700 for the charity.

Jack is a truly exceptional young man - he will be very sadly missed from Melling Primary as he represented the true essence of the school – The Head Teacher and Staff are certain he will continue to be an exceptional citizen of his High School and of the Melling community.

Alan has been an active member of Melling Scouts for over 25 years and his commitment today
is the same as it was when he first started scouting. Alan is passionate about the Melling area and when the recently formed Lions Club was in the initial stages he campaigned to ensure that Melling was included in the area to be covered.

A very keen photographer Alan is always ready to share photographs taken of the Melling area.

Alan was presented this award in recognition of his years of service with the scouts and a keen ambassador for Melling.

Joan was nominated for a special award for outstanding services to our village.

For as long as most people can remember, Joan has always been involved in making Melling a great place to live.  Joan used to help organise many activities for everybody to participate in.

Joan has also campaigned successfully for the kids of Melling to have a Youth Club that they can attend each week.  She used to assist the youth workers on a weekly basis volunteering her time for free.

Joan has played a massive part in keeping our kids of the streets and giving them something to do during the week, which the people of Melling are truly grateful for.

She is also a big part of Melling in Bloom and has been involved from the start.  She can always be seen in various places around the village, with her Melling in Bloom high vis vest on busy at work.  She even continued to do this following an operation on her foot and having to use crutches!!   We don't know where she finds the time to do all she does for our lovely village, but without her our village would not be the same!

And a message from the children of Melling –

We really like Joan. She is a kind and funny lady. She joins in all in the games in youth club and makes it fun for the kids.”

 Alan Brown

Melling Parish Council presented an award to the family of the late Councillor Mr Alan Brown, to acknowledge his outstanding contribution and commitment to public life in Melling. Alan joined the Parish Council in 1968 and has long been involved in the community as Chairman of Melling Parish Council, Chairman of Melling Scouts and a School Governor for Melling Primary School to name but a few.

Barbara was a Parish Councillor in Melling for at least 29 years and the Chair of Melling Parish Council in 1997 to 2001.

The Melling Residents' and Community Association (MRCA) dates from the 1930s. Originally used by the Lords of the Manor of Melling, the Molyneux's, and later a builders' shed, it was given to the people of the village.  It is the hub of the Community, where there is great friendship, interesting trips and events, and a lot of good memories!
